Moulin Rouge – The Musical at Tennessee Performing Arts Center

During its brainstorming stage, Moulin Rouge! The Musical had to take on the challenge of exceeding or at least being at par with the original film of the same name. The musical's current success tells us that the Broadway stage adaptation has more than lived up to the name with an impressive turnout each show from both fans and critics alike. Moulin Rouge's narrative itself is your classic and tragic love story about Christian and Satine, an American writer arrives in Paris to look for something to inspire him, and a performer in the Moulin Rouge nightclub, respectively. They fall madly in love as they get closer to each other, and it is in their entanglement that they go back and forth as they try to unsuccessfully stop themselves, though fate continues to bring them closer together.

In the duration of 2 hours and 45 minutes of the whole show, this story is told mostly through song and dance, with amazing arrangements from the creative team, which is a combination of mash-ups, medleys, and even classic tunes. Manchester Media Group reported that Moulin Rouge is “a musical full of life because of its brilliant cast and crew.” From the 19th century set to the modern pop numbers, the musical’s sparkle is very evident; plus the fact that even the actors and actresses are composed of singer superstars such as Aaron Tveit and Karen Olivo originating the title roles of Christian and Satine and you have a worldwide phenomenon on your hands.
