The Story of Some Like It Hot
The show is set in the early 1930s just before the end of the Prohibition era. Two male jazz musicians, Joe and Jerry, witness a mobster commit a crime at the Speakeasy where they are playing. Rather than allow the mobster to try to kill them, the musicians decide to go on the run.
They put on women’s clothing and join a touring all-girl swing big band called Sweet Sue and the Society Syncopators. While touring, the two become infatuated with the band’s singer, Sugar Kane. They keep their real identities protected, but they both hope to gain the favor of Sugar Kane.
As the group tours, relationships form that threaten to expose Joe and Jerry as men. The gangsters and the FBI get involved, realizing Jerry and Joe from their tap-dancing routines. Which further complicating the groups movement to performances and its ability to receive funding from new investors.
Jerry, now identifying as Daphne, falls in love with one of the investors, leading to a marriage proposal. They can't keep their identities hidden forever, but none of the characters let that affect their feelings for each other. As Prohibition comes to an end, everyone is able to move on with their new lives.
