Jazz elements influence the entire show as the main characters, Joe and Jerry, are struggling musicians trying to survive on speakeasy shows. Their lives face an unexpected turn of events when they witness a gangster committing a crime in their mob-controlled venue and need to disguise themselves as female musicians to protect their identities from the mob.
Joe reinvents himself as Josephine, while Jerry transforms into Daphne and the two join an all-female swing band.
